Fall's Fashion Revolution of 2006
Fall/Winter 2006 Fashion Report
The Fall 2006 fashion trends seem to be a bit radical this year. Bubble skirts and dresses were seen in almost every show from Milan to Paris. Oversized "missed" proportions and piled on layers with an 80's flair were also universal. The latter projects an exaggerated sense of "comfortable" and coziness and will serve as a security blanket for some but we think it's the most unflattering trend this season. However, if done right with say, a dress over those must-have leggings or combining complementing fabrics, such as chiffon over silks and layering necklaces can certainly offer a chic look!
Another strong trend we noticed, that some have labeled "The Napoleonic" or the "Napoleon Complex" showcased structured jackets and coats with bold brass buttons and military-inspired framework with bold gold medallion necklaces and old country medieval crosses. Fendi, Ralph Lauren and Alberta Ferretti did this beautifully with flattering cuts, rich fabrics and colors.
Mini plaid skirts seem to be very hot paired with leggings and solid, structured boots and bags complemented with thick striking gold chains and "wear them anywhere" brooches.
Some of our favorite fall must-haves include those fabulous "skinny" jeans, which we anticipate will be around for longer than this season! Silver plated fabrics and eye squinting garments in brocades and lamès, inspired by the 1970's. Maybe a bit much for some but we can certainly keep up with this trend by wearing them in our accessories. Opt for metallic jewelry, bags, scarves and shoes!
And of course there is fur! Always in and getting better! Whether your taste and wallet can wear the real deal or you can opt for the faux alternatives, you are sure to look sophisticated and exotic. Designers such as, Undercover, Alexander McQueen and Versace went bold and bright. But you can find a much tailored look with fur and wool/cashmere combos or even vests, which were seen in Miu Miu and Burberry. This is certainly the season to do fur, if you ever wanted to. Finally, designers broke away from the traditional and showcased a beautiful array of options.
We think if you wear these trends separately you can look amazing! However, we caution those devoted fashion divas who may want to show that she's got it all down. You may look a bit rebellious or shocking if you are not vigilant!
A Focus on Jewelry
Color Assessment
The most exciting aspect of this season is certainly the color palette! A sea of deep reds, rich blues, violets, burnt coral orange and dark strong yellows, winter white and black (which seems to have replaced our fall browns and neutrals). Gold is certainly at its peak but you can also find renaissance metals, such as copper, pewter and burnt rustic silver.
